2020 Recap
We closed towards the end of March with the first lockdown and remained closed until 4th July. In this time, the Mistal was painted throughout, a bit of painting in The Granary. All the pine furniture was waxed and polished. Boilers had their annual service and landlord checks, all the electrical equipment had its annual PAT testing checks. A lot of outside jobs were completed along with gardening.
When we were able to open again, we made quite a few changes in the cottages. We removed a lot of items to start with, but as each week passed we were able to make adjustments. All the items removed were available on request. Our changeovers were taking a lot longer until we purchased an antiviral fogging machine, which made a big difference.
With the summer fully booked, it was very busy but everything ran smoothly. We then had to shut again early November with the second lockdown.
We had already booked in for The Mistal to have the roof repaired the first two weeks of November, so this worked out well, and the weather couldn’t have been better.
We then had a busy December, Christmas and New Year booked in, but then because of all the tier restrictions all but one had to cancel. Now we are in the third lockdown unsure when we will be allowed to open again, but we are ready for whenever that may be.
We haven’t got any major projects planned this year as I think we have got through all the big jobs now, but there is always the on going maintenance and repairs to keep on top of.
It has been a very different and difficult time for everyone. We had many bookings cancelled or changed, and changed again. There has been a lot of information to read through and digest here, and extra paperwork, all often ending with a headache. (oh and how could I forget homeschooling, thank goodness for google) We joined the Professional Association of Self Caterers to make sure we are keeping up with the rules and regulation and completed the Visit England Good to Go Scheme.
We are very much looking forward to spring, lighter nights, and a bit warmer weather and hopefully seeing guests in the cottages again. Get your dates pencilled in, the school holidays are almost full in The Granary. The Mistal is very busy from May to September. A booking that has to be cancelled by you or us due to covid restrictions will get a full refund of any money paid or the option to change dates.
