Eating Out Locally
We are spoilt for choice when it comes to eating out locally. This months blog will give you some ideas of where to go when you are staying in our cottages.
The Bay Horse Ale House – Tel 01653 658302
I will start on our door step. You can take a leisurely ten minute walk up to The Bay Horse Ale House in Burythorpe. It opens daily from 11.30 am. The pub has a large selection of real ales.
Home cooked food is served daily from 12 noon until 2.00 pm. For Sunday Lunch tables can be reserved and is served until 3.00pm. Tuesday night from 5.30 pm is steak and pie night and on a Friday teatime there is a platter with Fizz!
Payment is cash or cheque, NO card payments.
A very friendly welcoming pub with 3 open fires in the colder months. Their Facebook Page is up to date with quiz night dates, events, live music dates and menu updates. The photo below shows the chocolate cake from the menu. I had to sample it obviously!!
Jolly Farmer Inn – Tel 01653 658276
A short drive, less than 5 minutes will take you to the Jolly Farmer Inn at Leavening. Open 7 days a week. Saturday and Sunday 12 pm to 12 am serving home cooked food lunch time and evening, then Monday to Friday opens 5.30 pm serving food evenings only, No food Monday or Tuesday. Meals are home made, main meals start at £8.50.
A good selection of beers including hand pulled beer. The Jolly Farmer Inn holds regular events including the Gin Festival in August, Beer festival, Live music, Yorkshire pudding competition, and regular quizzes. Booking a table is advisable.
The Blacksmiths Arms – Tel 01653 619606
Take a 10 minute drive to Westow and you find The Blacksmiths Arms open 7 days a week 12 noon to close. Food is served 12 noon to 2.30 pm and 5.30 pm to 8.30 pm. A family run pub offering a friendly welcoming service, home made locally sourced food, fine wine and real ales. Starters from £4.95, Main Meal from £11.95.
The Stone Trough – Tel 01653 618713
The next village on from Westow is Kirkham Abbey, where you will find The Stone Trough Inn. Open daily 12am to 11.00 pm. Again serving freshly cooked, locally sourced food. A good range of Yorkshire Beers and ales. Starters from £4.50 and mains start at £13.00. Wednesday is Steak Night, Thursday is Fish and Chip Night. Coffee and cakes are served daily from 11.00 am.
