Eating Out

The local area is very well served with good places to eat out, children are welcomed everywhere.  We would advise you to book ahead as they are all popular and opening times are different and do change.

The Bay Horse Ale House Burythorpe is open Tuesday to Sunday serving real ale & food.  Sunday lunch is served 12 noon to 2.00pm.  A very cosy candlelit pub with open fires and friendly welcoming greeting.

The best local steaks are probably served at the The Blacksmiths Arms in Westow, another friendly local pub.

On a sunny afternoon, the outside tables at The Stone Trough Inn near the picturesque ruins of Kirkham Abbey are perfect, with great views. The food is tasty and good value.

There is The Jolly Farmers  in Leavening, which offers good-quality cooking and well-kept beers.

Two other local pubs are The Half Moon at Acklam (01653 527330) and The Cross Keys at Thixendale.

For a treat, you can also eat in Burythorpe’s rather smart hotel, Burythorpe House, where the restaurant is open to non-residents.

All these places are within 15 minutes’ drive!

Slightly further afield, you have the Michelin-starred excellence of the Pipe and Glass at South Dalton, whilst Malton has a decent Italian, Florios, perfect for family pasta and pizza meals. Also in Malton are Indian, Chinese and Tex-Mex places.
